Historical and Military History Museums: Historical Truth, Generational Continuity, and Responsibility for the Future

Historical and military museums today act as custodians of truth, as venues of historical education, as centres of the spiritual and moral upbringing, as promoters of historical knowledge, and as opponents of its falsification. The contemporary displays of leading museums offer innovative solutions built on the latest digital technologies and on the principles of immersion: when history is brought to life, it offers complete absorption in the atmosphere of the period. Military history museums act as transmitters of meaning and of the most important value-based narratives, as champions of a patriotic museum agenda, and as integrators of socially significant projects delivered by the state. Participants in the discussion will share distinctive methods of patriotic work, discuss the strategic tasks facing the Association of Historical and Military History Museums and the country’s entire museum community in preserving and defending historical truth, and present successful historical education projects and new formats for engaging with audiences.
