A Museum With No Walls: How Design Is Reimagining the Cultural Experience

Modern museums and exhibition spaces are no longer just ‘repositories’ for artefacts, but have evolved into complex media environments where design takes on the role of the primary storyteller. How can we ensure that an encounter with Russian culture becomes an emotional and intellectual adventure for the younger generation as opposed to just a tedious lesson? What new languages – immersive, digital, interactive, or tactile – enable us to discuss the classics in a way that is accessible and engaging without sacrificing depth?
This session will explore how design is reinventing museums and transforming them from a space of passive contemplation into a forum for dialogue. It will also examine how this shift is altering the very nature of the cultural experience. The participants will discuss how an exhibit’s design can serve as a co-creator of the curator’s vision instead of simply acting as an illustration of it.
